An overview of the Prepare toolset

The Prepare toolset contains tools designed to import pipeline and ancillary data, such as structure and qualifying area features, into a Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase. The Prepare toolset also contains tools that process and prepare derivative data for use in Class Location and HCA-MCA analysis.

Tool	Description
Calculate Influence Ranges	Calculates the ‘influence ranges’ of Buildings Intended for Human Occupancy (BIHOs) and Qualifying Areas/Buildings on the centerline in preparation for ‘sliding range’ calculations subsequent to Class Location determination (per 49 CFR §192.5).
Copy Centerlines	Copies centerline features from your pipeline database into the Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase.
Create Centerline PIR Buffers	Creates Potential Impact Radius (PIR) buffers on your centerline features in preparation for HCA-MCA analysis by method 2 (per 49 CFR §192.903(2)).
Create Structure and Site PIR Buffers	Creates PIR buffers around BIHOs and Identified Sites, and calculates the intersection ranges of those buffers with your pipeline centerline features in preparation for HCA-MCA analysis by method 2.
Generate Sliding Ranges	Calculates ‘sliding ranges’ for BIHOs in preparation for Class Location calculations.
Initialize Database	Instantiates the Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase.
Prepare Centerline Buffers	Generates 660-foot Class Location unit corridor and 300-foot corridor buffers around your centerlines for selection of BIHO features and Qualifying Area/Building features, respectively, in preparation for Class Location calculations.
Prepare Cluster Buffers	Generates dissolved ‘cluster’ buffers for BIHOs in preparation for calculating Class 4 and ‘clustered’ Class 2 and 3 location ranges (per 49 CFR §192.5(c)).
Prepare Pipe Segment and MAOP Features	Copies pipe segment and Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) data from your pipeline database into your Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase in preparation for PIR calculation and subsequent HCA-MCA calculation.
Prepare Qualifying Areas	Copies Qualifying Area/Building and/or Identified Site features from your pipeline database into the Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase in preparation for Class Location/HCA-MCA calculations.
Prepare Roads	Copies road centerline features into your Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase and prepares them for use in MCA calculations.
Prepare Structure and Site Buffers and Segments	Creates BIHO and Qualifying Area/Building buffers, and calculates the intersection ranges of BIHO buffers with your pipeline centerline features in preparation for Class Location analysis.
Prepare Structures	Copies BIHO features from your pipe database into the Gas HCA Tool project geodatabase and prepares them for use in Class Location and HCA-MCA calculations.
